The range is an extension of his superb cafetière design and has become one of our most popular collections with retailers and restaurants alike.

David Mellor’s iconic ‘Pride’ cutlery was designed in 1953 while Mellor was still a student at the Royal College of Art and has been in continuous production ever since.

Included in the very first Design Centre Awards in 1957 it is on display in numerous collections around the world as a prime example of 20th century modernist design and remains one of our most popular ranges.

Now an acknowledged modern classic, the gently tapered hollow knife handles, delicate curves and refined proportions give ‘Pride’ its exceptional beauty and understated elegance.

The simplicity of form and flawless mirror polish finish of ‘Pride’ creates a supremely elegant table setting, leading it to be used in many prestige restaurants and hotels all over the world.

Knife blades are made from high carbon stainless steel for a superior cutting edge. Knife handles are available in stainless steel, black or ivory acetal resin.

Our latest cutlery design, Liner, has been created by Corin Mellor as a 21st century interpretation of the timeless glamour of early 20th century design.

Inspired by the work of the iconic silversmith Robert Goodden, who taught David Mellor at the Royal College of Art in the 1950s, Liner is flamboyant and flowing. The decorative fluting that subtly fades into its handle brings to mind the elegance of Art Deco and the glory days of transatlantic travel.

Liner has been in development for three years and has been designed on a grand scale. The individual pieces have an undeniable sense of grandeur and theatre and feel pleasingly substantial in the hand. The knives have blades made from high carbon steel for a superior cutting edge and hollow handles to make sure they are perfectly balanced.

The range is one of our most comprehensive, with twelve pieces in the range including a coffee spoon, butter knife and cake fork. All the pieces have a stylish satin finish. Liner has been designed with elegant entertaining in mind.

Corin Mellor’s first cutlery design, designed in 2011, was a real breakthrough. Though it shows the influence of his father David Mellor, with whom he worked for many years, Chelsea has its own striking individuality.

There are overtones of classic English 18th century cutlery in the satisfying shape of the hollow handled knife while the forks and spoons have a beautiful fluidity. A year in development, many prototypes were made to perfect the form and function of each item, with special attention paid to the balance in the hand.

Corin Mellor’s Chelsea cutlery is very finely detailed with subtle variations of thickness. Its classic shapes and satin finish make it suitable for both modern and traditional interiors and dining styles. The range of items is exceptionally comprehensive.

The special character of Chelsea made it the natural choice for use in many modern restaurants including our own Design Museum café and since its introduction it has fast become one of our most popular ranges.

Exceptionally pleasant and practical to use. Provençal has a lovely robustness of character and remains one of our best selling ranges after almost half a century of continuous production.

Designed in 1975 when Mellor was the first designer to develop the idea of combining stainless steel with high quality moulded acetal resin. Provençal was very much attuned to the good food revolution of the 1970s with its gently rounded handles and soft curved shapes suggesting Mediterranean cooking, fresh seasonal meals and sociable dining.

It has always been a favourite in modern restaurants, reflecting our increasingly easy-going attitudes to food.

The rounded knife blades are made from high carbon stainless steel for a superior cutting edge. Handles are acetal resin with brass rivets.
