Shri Hem Chand Gupta, the founder of CRAFT HOME was one of the first few visionary men in India who ventured into exports in the 20th century. His far sightedness set him apart from his contemporaries. His dream came with a firm conviction and took him to USSR which at that time was an undiscovered territory for many Asians.
With a sack on his back and ₹2000 in his pocket he set out to woo the wealthy Russians with his beautifully hand crafted Ceramic vases, pots and Tableware. With enthusiasm and passion running in his blood, Shri Hem Chand had told his family he would either return with hope or never return at all!
Shri Hem Chand had indeed opened the door for exports for his successors, little knowing at that time that Stone was just the stepping stone of success for his company. His son, Shri Naresh Gupta took the next big step with Stone, Metal and Bone Objects. It was his brainwave to experiment with Brass to construct Ornate yet useful object for home. He travelled to Rajasthan for weeks, established a vendor base and showed the world the riches of Rajasthan in sandstone and soapstone.
Leaving his often ill parents at home, Shri Naresh Gupta would venture out with his Uncle with a sack full of beautiful handicrafts and would not come home for months.
He got his first Breakthrough with The Conran Shop of England when he delivered a container full of Metal Candle stands in a matter of just 60 days. He even brought back to his company what was once started by his father. Habitat from England at that time was big on stone items and they purchased a huge quantity of Sandstone Bath Accessories from him. Now his forte has shifted to Bone and Horn Handicrafts and successfully inherited by his son, Mr. Siddhartha Gupta.
Siddhartha Gupta has continued to work in this family owned business for over 14 years & gained his father's confidence with easy skill and finesse. But earning bread for one’s family has never come easy to even the Tatas and Birlas of India.
The owners of the company themselves travel overseas several times a year and keep abreast with the latest trends and fashions. They nurture their design sensibility and understand their customers through personal meetings and appointments and participate in International Trade shows.
A legacy started in the 1950’s now continues to sustain the entire Gupta Clan, all from the sons to the sisters and even the daughter.
