Écru baby alpaca throw

Écru baby alpaca throw

Description

The collection called Écru is designed by Danish Cecilie Manz and consists of three throws. They differ from each other both in the base colour and in the discreet stripes along the edges that vary in both weave and colour, giving each throw its own unique identity. The throws come in three classic basic colours - a soft beige, an off-white and a brown. All are the natural colours of baby alpaca wool, which means that the fibres are not dyed.

Écru is made from 100% baby alpaca wool, which is known for its unique properties. The wool is thermoregulatory, meaning it can be up to seven times warmer than sheep's wool when it's cold, while appearing light and cool when temperatures rise. This is because alpaca wool fibres are hollow, and therefore naturally insulating. In addition, alpaca fibres are water-repellent and breathable, and the wool is hypoallergenic as it contains no lanolin, making it suitable for allergy sufferers.

Elvang is fair trade certified at the highest possible level within the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) as Guaranteed Member. This guarantees that the throw is woven under responsible conditions for both the environment, humans and animals.

Carte Postale Throw

The Carte Postale collection is designed by Inga Sempé.

Carte Postale has a graphic pattern consisting only of dual-coloured surfaces that meet each other in the middle. The colours are clear, yet enigmatic; they run together like watercolours—a soft pink that fades into a bright red, or a blue that brightens more and more the closer it gets to the edge of the throw.

French designer Inga Sempé, was inspired by two images of a horizon: the first, a field right at the point where earth meets the sky, cutting the landscape in two, and the second, the point where sea and sky merge. Memories like these gave Sempé the idea for the abstract motif that has become the essence of her collection for Elvang. It has been very appropriately named Carte Postale, which means postcard in French, because its nature and landscape motifs are evocative of old-fashioned holiday postcards received in the mail.

Carte Postale is woven from a blend of recycled sheep and alpaca wool, and this special combination of fibres makes it light, durable and soft at the same time. The recycled wool is processed at our local supplier in Peru, which means that the wool comes from other productions and would otherwise be considered waste. By pulling the wool apart, the original fibres emerge and new yarn can be spun and woven into new textiles. In this way, Elvang helps to utilise already existing resources that, instead of being discarded, are given new life with us.
