Lava throw

Description

The throw named Lava is bombastic and warm, just like the volcanic lava it is named after; one of nature's most fascinating phenomena. The material is a mix of soft alpaca wool with a small amount of nylon, but it's the yarn that gives the surface its special character. It's a bouclé type, characterised by small loops that give extra volume and create a characteristic fluffy surface that retains warmth without compromising on lightness. Lava is available in three beautiful versions with wide coloured stripes that meet on a warm cream background - a modern moss green and pink, an elegant blue-grey and brown, and the more classic navy and sky blue.

Lava is woven from the finest alpaca quality with a small amount of nylon mixed in for durability. In general, alpaca fibres are known to be softer, more durable and better at heat regulation than other natural fibres, and alpaca wool throws and cushions also fluff minimally, which means they typically last longer than similar materials. The wool is also hypoallergenic as it contains no lanolin, making it suitable for allergy sufferers.

Elvang is fair trade certified at the highest possible level within the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) as Guaranteed Member. This guarantees that the throw is woven under responsible conditions for both the environment, humans and animals.

Carte Postale Throw

The Carte Postale collection is designed by Inga Sempé.

Carte Postale has a graphic pattern consisting only of dual-coloured surfaces that meet each other in the middle. The colours are clear, yet enigmatic; they run together like watercolours—a soft pink that fades into a bright red, or a blue that brightens more and more the closer it gets to the edge of the throw.

French designer Inga Sempé, was inspired by two images of a horizon: the first, a field right at the point where earth meets the sky, cutting the landscape in two, and the second, the point where sea and sky merge. Memories like these gave Sempé the idea for the abstract motif that has become the essence of her collection for Elvang. It has been very appropriately named Carte Postale, which means postcard in French, because its nature and landscape motifs are evocative of old-fashioned holiday postcards received in the mail.

Carte Postale is woven from a blend of recycled sheep and alpaca wool, and this special combination of fibres makes it light, durable and soft at the same time. The recycled wool is processed at our local supplier in Peru, which means that the wool comes from other productions and would otherwise be considered waste. By pulling the wool apart, the original fibres emerge and new yarn can be spun and woven into new textiles. In this way, Elvang helps to utilise already existing resources that, instead of being discarded, are given new life with us.
