Our story
Our brand, Shimoyama was founded in Tokyo in 2018. It was derived from a small drink during a trip of the two female founders, Yamada Kumiko and Han Dongshuang, at a tachi-nomi sake bar, which is drinking while standing in Japanese, in Tokyo Station.
They asserted that among the Japanese brands they distribute, some are quite well-designed and beautiful, but not able to reach general consumers because of the high price, while some are unpretentious and reasonably priced, but fail to take advantage of trends to get attention from consumers.
With an in-depth understanding of the household goods trade, the two made up their mind to create a new brand together, taking one character from each’s name, which comes to Shimoyama (Shimo for Shuang in Chinese and Yama for Yamada in Japanese). They are dedicated to creating a lifestyle that is "practical and beautiful" in the meantime, with a reasonable price to enchant general consumers with ease of use as well as an aesthetic experience.
