BABÁK Collection – Hand-crafted Objects from Reclaimed Materials
Description
The BABÁK collection is a series of hand-crafted side tables made from reclaimed shipping-container pallets. These industrial hardwood elements are first block-pressed, then turned on a lathe to achieve their final sculptural forms. The name BABÁK means little babies in Hungarian, referring to the rounded, friendly silhouettes inspired by the Mathuka dolls familiar from socialist-era childhoods. Their soft, character-like proportions give each piece a warm, approachable presence.
The collection consists of five tables, each with distinct proportions yet sharing the same visual language. Every piece features an integrated stone top repurposed from discarded kitchen countertops. This durable surface is heat-resistant, making the tables functional companions for everyday use—even a hot cup of coffee can be placed on them without hesitation.
The finishing process highlights the handmade nature of the objects. The blue tint is achieved by mixing mineral pigments into orange oil, applied carefully by hand. Subtle traces of the maker’s fingerprints remain visible, celebrating craftsmanship and the individuality of each piece.
Through the combination of reclaimed materials, artisanal techniques, and nostalgic cultural references, the BABÁK collection explores how design can be both sustainable and emotionally resonant—objects that carry stories, memories, and a distinctly human touch.
