Über uns

Sustainability has been an integral part of Berndes' identity in the cookware and kitchen sector for over 100 years.

Berndes - a story of innovations

Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia, Arnsberg, in the heart of the Sauerland. Heinrich Berndes founded a company that proudly bears the visionary surname of its founder to this day. Heinrich Berndes is driven by the idea of rethinking something very everyday: cookware! Innovation, functionality and high quality have been the premises under which Berndes produces pots, pans, roasters and the like for over a hundred years.

Already a revolution at the time

After numerous experiments with various coatings in the 1950s, Berndes was finally able to revolutionize the cookware market around 1976! The first non-stick cast aluminum cookware was born and with it a classic, the BONANZA® pan with its characteristic wooden handle made of Sauerland ash. Incidentally, it is still in the range today.

Many other innovations followed, such as the first colored cast aluminum cookware (1995) or the concept of providing pans with a durable, removable handle. The "Vario Click" series was born (2005).

It‘s a matter of responsibility

High-quality products are a matter of course for us, but also an obligation towards the future of our nature and our fellow human beings: today, tomorrow and in the future. Creating a positioning that is more than just a marketing label. Because now more than ever before we know that ensuring a good future very much depends on how we treat our environment and its resources today. What may have been good ideas in the past, are no longer necessarily quite such good ideas today... But we know what we need to do if we are to safeguard our common future, and that is to take responsibility for our actions today. And we at BERNDES are determined to do just that, which is why we have developed our b.green brand. Because for us it’s clear that b.green = be green!

Naturally sustainable - for today and the future

Sustainability is about responsibility – to nature, our health, and what we pass on to future generations. At BERNDES, sustainability is more than a promise. It’s part of our fundamental attitude and our day-to-day decisions.

Because if you want to show an awareness of sustainability in the way you live your life, you do not simply pay attention to what is on your plate, but also to where it comes from and how it is prepared. Healthy nutrition begins with food that has been carefully selected and properly cooked. And this is precisely the starting point for BERNDES: with a sustainable focus on quality and durability, we create the basis for a life in harmony with other people and nature.

Our decisions are unequivocal: we rely on secondary aluminium from recycled beverage cans because it conserves resources and reduces environmental impact. In addition, we use durable stainless steel products, which make a further contribution to sustainability and resource conservation thanks to their resistance and recyclability. We consistently avoid pollutants such as PFAS and heavy metals, as they have no place either in your kitchen or in our world. And our innovative b.nature quartz coating is a byword for natural materials that are durable, safe and health-conscious.

We were awarded the German Sustainability Prize in 2024 for our hard work – recognition that gives us renewed strength in continuing along the same path. Sustainability has many facets for us: from responsible choice of materials to energy efficiency in cooking. It’s about making the right choices – for you, for the planet, and for future generations

Products 2025 - together for tomorrow

The discussion about dwindling resources and suggested savings measures was not what initially prompted us to think about resources in products that are given a new lease of life through recycling. We have always used recycled material for our aluminium products was and is commonplace for us. Aluminium is used, not consumed, and remelting used aluminium requires only 5 % of the energy required for initial extraction.

Expanding our product range with stainless steel products fits in perfectly with our philosophy. Stainless steel is an extremely durable material, and it is logical that we already offer individual products made from 90 % recycled stainless steel in this segment, as well.

With the b.green label, we set standards regarding the sustainability of our products – for a smaller ecological footprint with maximum enjoyment.
