The Goethe House in Frankfurt am Main

to the Website

Johann Wolfgang Goethe was born in Frankfurt am Main on 28 August 1749 and he wrote his first renowned works, such as ‘Götz von Berlichingen’ and ‘The Sorrows of Young Werther’, in his parent’s house at Grosser Hirschgraben.

Today, the late Baroque patrician house still recalls Goethe’s early years and, on four floors with rooms furnished as in Goethe’s time, visitors can gain an impression of life in a middle-class household in the 18th century.

Frankfurter Goethehaus, Grosser Hirschgraben 23-25. Open from Monday to Sunday
