The best-known building from Frankfurt’s historical past, the neo-Renaissance opera house with which architect Richard Lucae wanted to put Paris and Dresden in the shade. Built from 1873 – 80, the Alte Oper was rebuilt after being bombed during the Second World War and reopened in 1981.
